Taiwan sets single-day record for domestic COVID-19 cases as virus spreads

Taipei, May 14 (CNA) Taiwan on Friday confirmed 29 new domestic cases of COVID-19, its highest number of locally transmitted infections in a single day since the outbreak began early last year, as authorities continued to grapple with a string of cluster infections in northern Taiwan.
A total of 16 of the cases are linked to a cluster involving hostess teahouses in Taipei s Wanhua District; five are associated with a cluster in Luzhou, New Taipei, involving members of the Lions Club International organization; and one is linked to a games arcade in Yilan County, while the sources of seven have not yet been determined, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

Taiwan has enough remdesivir to last until July: CECC

Taipei, May 14 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Friday said Taiwan currently has enough remdesivir to last until the end of July.
According to the CECC, remdesivir is an important medication that has been used to treat patients suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms.
During a press briefing, CECC official Chou Jih-haw (周志浩) said the three patients confirmed Friday as having contracted COVID-19 have been categorized as seriously ill, with two on respirators.

Taipei, May 14 (CNA) A medical staff member of Tri-Service General Hospital s Songshan Branch in downtown Taipei was confirmed Friday to have contracted COVID-19, leading to a suspension of outpatient services at the hospital.
The case is not one of the 29 new domestic cases the CECC reported earlier that day.
According to Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥), the latest patient is a medical personnel working for outpatient services at the hospital, and the related details will not be publicized until Saturday because an investigation is currently still underway.
