Taipei, May 11 (CNA) Inventories of surgical face masks in Taiwan remain sufficient to meet demand at a time when the country is seeing rising concerns over an increase in domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Tuesday.
On its Facebook page, the MOEA said the current face mask inventory tops 800 million units, with daily production hitting 18.30 million units on average and a maximum daily capacity of 40 million units.
Judging from the figures, the MOEA said, Taiwan has sufficient supplies to cope with the rising number of indigenous COVID-19 cases.
The MOEA s assurance came after Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said earlier in the day that Taiwan has entered a community COVID-19 transmission stage after seven new domestic cases were reported, six of which were from unknown sources.
MIAMI – China Airlines (CI) pilots will soon face a 14-day quarantine upon arriving in Taiwan. That’s the latest from Taiwan’s Health Minister which comes amid a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases…all linked to an airport hotel.
Taiwan’s Health Minister Chen Shih-Chung said that imposing the 14-day self-isolation for all CI pilots who reside in Taiwan is the only way to stop the COVID-19 transmission at China Airlines.
Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) also ordered all China Airlines pilots working overseas to fly back to Taiwan to undergo a 14-day quarantine. The pilots would be allowed to finish 14-day self-isolation after getting a negative COVID-19 test.

Taiwan imposed a ban last December, as a relatively high number of Indonesian arrivals were testing positive for the virus. In a statement on the Ministry of Manpower website, Fauziyah pointed out that the number of new cases in Indonesia had dropped to 3,922 on Sunday (May 9). If the daily increase stays below 5,000 for a full week, Taiwan could reopen its borders to Indonesian workers.
