This online speaking activity was taken from Fangzhou Zhang’s Chinese class at Montclair Kimberley Academy in New Jersey. The online class has six 7th graders in a hybrid learning setting with students both in the classroom and remote at home.

MONTVILLE, NJ – Aaron Lefkowitz had been volunteering in a senior living facility, playing Bingo with the residents, before the world shut down due to COVID. But when the 16-year-old junior at the Montclair Kimberley Academy could not come in to the senior facility, he realized that volunteering opportunities were scarce, so he created his own.

♦ The Theater Project is seeking entries for its 19th annual Young Playwrights Competition and, to serve as an incentive of sorts, the Union-based professional theater company will re-stream four of last year’s winning plays online 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday.
The contest is open to New Jersey high school-aged residents. Deadline to enter the 2021 competition is Jan. 22. Guidelines can be found at thetheaterproject.org. Winners receive cash prizes and will have their work performed by professional actors at a Zoom awards ceremony in the spring.
