Vaughan closes ice rinks, toboggan hill due to stay-at-home order, Toronto and Missisauga keep them open

Last Updated Friday, January 15, 2021 12:19PM EST The City of Vaughan appears to be the first municipality in the Greater Toronto Area to close some of its outdoor amenities following a stay-at-home order issued by the provincial government. In a statement released early Friday morning, city officials confirmed they would be closing its outdoor skating rinks, toboggan hill and dog park effective Jan. 15. “This is the most recent step taken to protect the health and safety of citizens and staff,” the release said. “All decisions about closing and opening facilities continue to be informed by Vaughan-specific data and reflect guidance issued by York Region Public Health and the provincial government – with public safety being the priority.”

Shoppers search for Boxing Day sales as pandemic restricts retail options

But in Alberta, where retail remained open with stores limited to 15 per cent of their capacity, business was brisk at Canada s largest indoor shopping centre, West Edmonton Mall.
