Six members of a Pontefract gym are taking on the challenge of climbing six mountains in 48 hours
The Six Peaks challenge is a combination of the national three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon along with the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen Y Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside - an energy-sapping 48 miles in 48 hours.
The team from Maximal Health and Fitness is made up of 40-year-old Alec, his cousin Reece Lindsay, 25, Shaun Carter, 38, and Brian Hume, 48. Another cousin Gareth Lindsay, 39 and 32- year-old Jamie Gore will act as backup and drivers to enable the four-man climbing team to sleep between mountains. They will also help with kit preparation, food and fluids, physical preparation and anything else needed to enable the climbers to complete the challenge.
THRESHFIELD woman Honor Burridge took along five friends on April 24 to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks raising £1,734 for Candlelighters. “This was in memory of my Grandpa Stuart Hawes, who sadly died after a long battle with liver cancer last August,” she said. “His life was prolonged by three years thanks to a radical new treatment and the dedicated care he received at the Bexley Wing, Leeds. “During the time he spent there he was incredibly touched by the courage of young children receiving cancer treatment alongside him. The path coming down from Penyghent THE Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) was called out yesterday (Sunday) afternoon after a 61 year old woman fell on her way down from Penyghent. The woman was reported to have broken her ankle on the path heading towards Hull Pot, near its junction with the old Yorkshire Three Peaks route. A CRO spokesperson said: As team members responded, the ambulance service advised that an air ambulance had collected the patient and was flying her down to meet the road ambulance on Horton Playing Field. The team was stood down.
