NYC sued for allegedly allowing playground tree to grow into neighboring property

NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - A company sued the City of New York for allegedly neglecting a tree until it began to grow onto their property. The complaint was filed on April 19 in the New York County Supreme Court by plaintiff Everton Properties LLC against the City of New York, the New York City School Construction Authority and the Department of Education of the City of New York. Everton Properties owns the property at 1131 Broadway in Brooklyn. Next to the property is a school playground area.  The plaintiff alleges that a tree on the playground area has been neglected by the defendants and has grown into the plaintiff s east wall.

(Legal Newsline) – New York Attorney General Letitia James has moved to dismiss Amazon’s lawsuit against her that seeks to block litigation she filed against it over the company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her May 3 motion comes a month after her lawsuit got a restart in New York state court. The timeline essentially is this: James threatened suit, Amazon sued her to block it, James filed her own suit. “Amazon’s complaint should be dismissed,” James’ lawyers wrote. “As an initial matter, the court lacks federal subject matter jurisdiction because Amazon requests anticipatory declaratory and injunctive relief while disputing the meaning and application of state law.

LGBTQ students sue Yeshiva University for discrimination   May 7, 2021 NEW YORK (JTA) A group of students and alumni is suing Yeshiva University for discrimination, claiming that the university violated New York City’s human rights law when it refused to recognize an LGBTQ student club. Fight over a sandwich lands NYC market in lawsuit

NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Westside Market in New York City was sued for assault and battery damages after four of its employees allegedly jumped a man they believed to have stolen a sandwich.  The complaint was filed by plaintiffs Tommy Hairston and Diovies Jaililov on April 21 in the New York County Supreme Court. Hairston and Jaililov visited the grocery store s location at 170 W. 23rd. St. in New York on May 31, 2020, where Hairston ordered a sandwich from the delicatessen counter.  The plaintiffs say they paid for the sandwich by placing a $10 bill on the delicatessen counter to include the price of the sandwich and a tip, then left the store.
