Mary Jacobs photography selected for a provincial award

Now she’s been recognized at the provincial level for her skills. Jacobs took top spot in the wildlife category at the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation’s (SWF) annual photography contest, for a photo of a couple of pheasants in a field. The winner was revealed by the SWF recently. Mary Jacobs is a long-time photographer in the Estevan area. File photo She has finished second and third in the provincial contest previously, but has never taken top spot. “Every so often, a bunch of us would go out driving, looking for wildlife pictures, and this one day, we were driving down the road, and there was a group of pheasants that had crossed the road,” Jacobs told the Mercury.

Cheers to the two trucks that stopped to help a person who fell on King Street recently. Their concern was much appreciated. Hope it didn t cause any traffic trouble because of the stop. Cheers to the different organizations in the community that found a way to have activities for children during the week off school, whether it be in-person or digitally. Cheers to Choose Life Ministry for having a Coldest Night of the Year walk on Saturday. As a bonus, it wasn’t close to being the coldest night of the year. Cheers to the Estevan Exhibition Association for looking ahead and trying to think of ways they can have something fun for the community this year.

Exhibition Association made it through tough year

We had a couple of members present some fabulous ideas to bring to our grounds, Huber said. Real Life XL Skills Inc. suggested bringing in a program, allowing youth and their families to work with horses even if they don t own one. Another person suggested bringing in some classes onto the exhibition grounds for a fundraiser. Due to the pandemic, the association wasn t able to host their annual fair and rodeo, which were supposed to happen on the same weekend for the first time in more than 20 years in 2020. And so far, they are not sure what s going to happen to their 2021 summer season. So, while still hoping for the best, the board started looking into other opportunities.
