Rutland Regional Planning Commission to assist state tactical basin planning

Tue, 12/29/2020 - 1:32pm tim Vermont Business Magazine The Rutland Regional Planning Commission (RRPC) is pleased to announce expanded outreach and services to municipalities and the public to enhance water quality and tactical basin planning efforts for South Lake Champlain (Basins 2 & 4).   “As Watershed Planners, we value the role regional planning commissions play given their strong ties to the municipalities. This collaboration makes our plans stronger and more tailored to the communities the plans are written to serve,” said Angie Allen of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The work is supported through a grant provided by the DEC. Activities began this fall and will continue through July 2021.

County planning commission to help state

The county planning commission will be helping the state in cataloguing existing water quality data. The Rutland Regional Planning Commission announced Thursday that it will assist the Department of Environmental Conservation from now through August “We’ve got a range of water quality work that we do with DEC, this is a subset of that,” said Barbara Noyes Pulling, a planner with the RRPC. The commission will look through existing data and update a database the DEC maintains on water quality projects, checking what’s been done and how others are progressing. This is to support the Vermont Clean Water Act by helping reduce the amount of phosphorus into the Otter Creek and Lower Lake Champlain watersheds.

RRPC to assist state in identifying local water quality projects

Thu, 12/17/2020 - 1:45pm tim Vermont Business Magazine In an ongoing effort to identify and support the most vital water quality projects in the region, the Rutland Regional Planning Commission (RRPC) will assist the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation in collecting and cataloging water quality data from area municipalities in the Rutland Region between now and August 2020. As part of the Vermont Clean Water Act’s goal of reducing phosphorous and other nutrients from getting into the region’s waterways, the RRPC will help the state maintain the Watersheds Projects Database to update specific assessed projects. This database includes all VT DEC water quality projects, such as those identified by Tactical Basin Plans, road erosion inventories to support stormwater planning for municipal roads, river corridor studies, and Stormwater Master Plans. The RRPC’s work will focus on potential projects within the Rutland Region section of the Otter Creek and the Lower Lak
