In a major reshuffle of the top brass of the police, the West Bengal government on Saturday transferred 24 senior IPS officers, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner.
Soumen Mitra will be the new Kolkata Commissioner, while Anuj Sharma, who was the Commissioner since mid-2019, has been appointed as the Additional Director General, Criminal Investigation Department.

The West Bengal government has asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to approach local authorities in the districts concerned for getting permission for the state-wide Ratha Yatra that the BJP has planned to take out.

The West Bengal unit of BJP has alleged that Mamata Banerjee s decision to contest from Nandigram in East Midnapore district is a result of her concerns about getting the votes of the Hindus.
On Wednesday, BJP Bengal unit chief Dilip Ghosh wrote on social media that Mamata chose to contest from Nandigram, the land of a famous land struggle during 2007-08 that helped her ascent to power, fearing a loss at her own constituency, Bhawanipur, in south Kolkata.
