STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - The attorney for the 32-year-old man accused of viciously beating an elderly retired steelworker after a car accident filed a motion to change his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.
Travonce Backie was indicted on the charges of felonious assault, failure to stop after an accident, driving under suspension and repeat violent offender specification.
The motion to change his plea will be heard on June 10 in front of Stark County Court of Common Pleas Judge Natalie Haupt.

Matt Wood was diagnosed in early March with a rare form of cancer.
At the time, he was advised that he would have to have it surgically removed, which would require the removal of his nose and possibly a portion of his upper jaw.
He and the wife he married shortly after being diagnosed spent weeks exploring other options.
She s a family doctor. He just didn t want to have that surgery. And with good reason. Cutting off your nose and possibly losing your jaw, that s scary, he says. And completely life-changing.
After seeing specialists in Boston and New York with some experience in treating this specific cancer metastatic sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma Wood decided to forego the surgery his Arizona doctors recommended in favor of a more experimental treatment.

American silent film actress Dorothy Gibson was one of the approximately 700 survivors of the tragedy.
Upon arriving in New York City unscathed, she immediately began filming Saved From the Titanic, the first film to depict the events of the sinking. It was released in May 1912, a month after the crash. She is famous for wearing the same clothes and shoes in the movie as she had worn during the actual sinking.
While the film was successful, it exists only in memories now. The only known print of the film was destroyed in a fire.

STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - The 32-year-old man accused of viciously beating an elderly retired steelworker after a car accident was indicted by the Stark County Grand Jury.
Travonce Backie was indicted on the charges of felonious assault, failure to stop after an accident, driving under suspension and repeat violent offender specification.
Canton police said Backie attacked Ralph White, 85, on Feb. 28.
According to Canton police, Whiteâs car was struck around 12:45 a.m. in the 2600 block of 8th Street NE.
