SINGAPORE: A member of a syndicate linked to S$2.5 million worth of cross-border investment scams, perpetuated via shell companies with fake office fronts at Marina Bay Financial Centre, was given 12 years and one month s jail on Monday (Apr 19).
China national Wei Yong, 44, gambled away most of his criminal proceeds, transacting a total of S$30 million at Singapore s casinos, and was unable to make any restitution.
10 new COVID cases in Singapore, including one in community
SINGAPORE The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore on Monday (22 February), taking the country s total case count to 59,879.
One of them is a locally transmitted COVID-19 infection in the community, while the remaining nine are imported.
On Sunday, the ministry said it is investigating a Malaysian truck driver who works as a freelance deliveryman and was denied entry into Singapore on 18 February after testing positive for COVID-19 for an antigen rapid test (ART) at Woodlands Checkpoint.
His polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test came back positive for COVID-19 on 19 February. His previous trip to Singapore was on 8 February, when he tested negative for COVID-19 for his ART at the checkpoint.

SINGAPORE: One locally transmitted community case was among the 10 new COVID-19 infections reported in Singapore on Monday (Feb 22).
The remaining nine cases were imported and had been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in its daily update.

The community case, a 43-year-old Singaporean man, is the husband of a previous case, a 41-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a cabin crew member with Singapore Airlines.
