Chesterfield woman really worried about Virginia COVID-19 vaccine distribution data

Chesterfield woman really worried about Virginia COVID-19 vaccine distribution data When we first met Kathy Heath last week, she was upset because her parents, who are in their late 70s with underlying health conditions, could not get a COVID-19 vaccine appointment with the Chesterfield Health District. Since then, my parents drove down to eastern North Carolina and got their vaccine on Wednesday, Heath said. But, Heath s passion for understanding Virginia s slow vaccine rollout continued. I ve actually been going to the dashboard everyday just to track progress and see how things are going in the Richmond area and across the state, Heath said.

Barring an unforeseen change, Henrico and Richmond Health District officials will receive only about 6,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccine each week for the foreseeable future – about a quarter of the doses the districts requested. The districts (which operate as one in many key ways) will distribute those doses thusly, according to Amy Popovich, the nurse manager for both: • 50% to seniors 65 and older • 40% to essential workers who are eligible in Phases 1A and 1B (the latter of which so far is open only to K-12 educators, child care workers, police, fire and hazmat officials)

Richmonder of the Year

How are you? Nothing has been simple in 2020, neither questions nor answers. With its first confirmed case in Virginia on March 7, COVID-19 and the virus that causes it, SARS-CoV-2, tore through communities and separated loved ones. It wreaked uncertainty and unknowns, masks and mandates, loneliness, fear, anger, exhaustion and mourning. The new coronavirus has affected every person, every day, in almost every way: careers, finances, education, nutrition, housing, faith, business, politics, travel, family and relationships. It’s changed how people connect with the world and each other. It has upended priorities. Early on, it seemed like preparing for a Richmond snow day. We hustled to the grocery store. We made runs for toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We brought children home from school, temporarily. But that scenario gave way to the realization that a pandemic was bearing down.
