Within the Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center, the following task forces guide and implement community engagement activities that address disparities to ensure that disparities are not inadvertently created or exacerbated. Task Forces Asian/Pacific Islander Task Force This task force holds a bi-weekly Facebook Live, MyAPI Live, in multiple languages including Burmese, Vietnamese, and Mandarin. They have also been active in promoting the national StopAAPIhate initiative, which developed an incident report for instances of Asian American and Pacific Islander harassment. Black/African Diaspora Task Force This task force continues to provide and improve access to COVID-19 service delivery, social support, education, and outreach. Austin native Alfred Dotson served in World War II and turns 102 soon

One day in 1932, Alfred Dotson Sr., and his twin brother, Wilfred, became instant musical celebrities at Kealing Junior High School. The two native Austinites sang “Painting the Clouds with Sunshine” so charmingly that teachers sent the 13-year-old duo around the building on Pennsylvania Avenue in East Austin to perform for all of the classes. “I sang it at my 75th wedding anniversary, too, with the men’s chorus at Ebenezer Baptist Church,” Dotson says in a smooth tenor voice. “I was with my wife, Ruth, for 79 years. She was my girl.” If you request that song today, Dotson, who turns 102 on April 15, will likely oblige.

UT School of Nursing serving underserved communities with mobile vaccine clinic Drew Knight Replay Video UP NEXT The School of Nursing at the University of Texas has launched a new initiative, providing COVID-19 vaccines to Austin-area residents who have limited access to requesting online appointments or are unable to travel to large vaccination sites. Working in coordination with the university s vaccine hub, the School of Nursing and its Medical Reserve Corps recently started its partnership with other university groups, multiple churches in East Austin and other community organizations to improve access to the vaccine.
