Both were taken to area hospitals and have since been treated and discharged, state police said. Delmar police officer Cpl. Keith Heacook was involved in a separate-but-related incident across the street involving Wilkerson, police said. Heacook was sent to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore the morning of the attack and was pronounced clinically dead April 28. (Wilkerson) will be held accountable for his heinous crimes against Cpl. Heacook, against the elderly couple he viciously attacked, and against Delmar and our entire state, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings said in a news conference.

Remembering Delmar police officer Keith Heacook: funeral arrangements

A funeral for Cpl. Keith Heacook of the Delmar Police Department is planned for Monday, May 10. The service will take place at noon at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church on Beaglin Park Drive in Salisbury, with the Rev. Christopher Labarge of St Francis de Sales Cathoic Church officiating, according to an obituary for Heacook posted online Monday. Visitation will occur from 10 a.m. to noon and internment will be private.  Heacook was critically injured when he was assaulted while responding to a report of a fight in progress at a Delmar home at about 5:12 a.m. Sunday, April 25. Officials at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore declared him clinically deceased at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday, April 28. At that time, Heacook remained on life support so that his organs could be donated.

When volunteers at the Humane Society of Wicomico County gathered April 26, they were short one notable face. Steve Franklin, a former U.S. Marine, has walked dogs at the shelter for nearly a decade, making the 20-minute drive three or four times a week. The Delmar resident and his wife, Judy, also own five dogs of their own, making animal care a major part of their lives. “He’s an animal lover,” said Megan Koester, event and community relations coordinator at the Humane Society. “He has that need to stay active and get his exercise in by giving back to the dogs.”

Police escort will bring Delmar Cpl Keith Heacook home Sunday

Delaware News Journal Delmar Police Department Cpl. Keith Heacook will return to the town he served Sunday in a dignified police escort, Delmar Police Chief Ivan Barkley announced Saturday in a press release. Heacook was declared clinically dead Wednesday and kept on life support for organ donation.  He had responded to a fight in progress at Yorkshire Estates last Sunday, April 25, and was attacked by 30-year-old Randon D. Wilkerson, police said. He suffered significant blunt-force trauma and was taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. His body will be escorted from Baltimore to Delmar starting at 2 p.m. Sunday.

One person dies in crash involving seven people Special to The Daily Times At about 9:35 p.m. Friday night, Maryland State Troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the area of Route 376 and Grey Fox Lane for a two-vehicle collision. Troopers believe that vehicle 1 with six occupants made a U-turn in front of another vehicle with one occupant. Multiple occupants were entrapped inside of vehicle 1. The driver of vehicle 1 was transported to Atlantic General Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased (name withheld pending notification to next of kin). One patient was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by Maryland State Police Trooper 4 and another was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Trooper 6. Four additional patients were transported by Berlin EMS, Ocean City Fire and EMS, Showell EMS, and Ocean Pines EMS to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
