A delivery of laptops gifted to students in Tower Hamlets marked the landmark moment of 110,000 #BridgeTheDivide devices distributed by LGfL – the National Grid for Learning, making them the second largest distributor of devices to schools in the UK behind the Department for Education.
Closer to home, the moment marked the transformation of potential for students from Blue Gate Fields Infants’ School whose lives have been changed forever by better access to their online learning.
Thousands of people have signed a petition demanding the removal of a statue of Australia’s first prime minister, Sir Edmund Barton, from a traditional burial site in NSW.
Port Macquarie woman Arlene Mehan, of the Mid North Coast’s Birpai people, is leading the campaign to force Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to move the statue from Town Green park on the banks of the Hastings River.
The seven-day-old petition has more than 2100 signatures and comes amid global action by the Black Lives Matter movement to tear down statues of white historical figures.
Ms Mehan said the Barton statue had always been an issue with her family.

London ISP Community Fibre has signed a wayleave agreement with social landlord EastendHomes in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
With the partnership, Community Fibre will bring its full fibre broadband network to 4,000 EastendHomes residents, offering high speed internet connectivity up to 1Gbps or 3Gbps depending on the areas.
The growing fibre broadband provider will work with the social landlord over the next year to upgrade the building management systems (including door entry, CCTV and lift monitoring) to 100% full fibre to increase energy efficiency and security of the buildings.
Six of EastendHomes’ community centres located across Tower Hamlets will be provided with Community Fibre’s Gigafast connection for free. This initiative follows as a pilot roll-out has started at Wager & Royston street onto Bede Estate in March, expanding to Holland Estate in April.
BBGI Global completes Tower Hamlets social infrastructure investment

(Alliance News) - BBGI Global Infrastructure SA on Friday said it has completed the acquisition of a social infrastructure investment in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
The Luxembourg-based infrastructure investment company said that the purchase price was confidential but in the range of GBP20 million to GBP30 million.
The investment will consist of two recreation facilities and 100 affordable residential units across two sites.

StockMarketWire.com - Infrastructure investment company BBGI Global Infrastructure said it has completed the acquired two recreation facilities and 100 residential units across two sites in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, UK.
Construction of the public-private partnership project was completed in 2016 and the concession runs until 2051.
The Poplar Baths building, on East India Dock Road in London, was first redeveloped and opened in 1934.
The specific purchase price was between £20 to £30 million. Following this acquisition, BBGI now owns a globally diversified portfolio of 51 infrastructure investments in the transport, healthcare, education, blue light and other services sectors which are geographically located in Australia, Canada, Continental Europe, the UK and the US, the company said.
