Select Page Five charged after RCMP vehicle chase, shots fired on Onion Lake Cree Nation on New Year’s Day Onion Lake RCMP say they have charged five people after a vehicle chase where gunshots were fired on New Year’s Day. Police say the chase began west of the Onion Lake Cree Nation and ended at the local high school on the reserve. Mounties say they were fired upon a number of times while pursuing a black SUV. Thirty-nine-year-old Twaine Buffalo, 37-year-old Glynnis Chief, 35-year-old Tyler Wolfe, all of Onion Lake Cree Nation, Danny Weeseekase of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation and 32-year-old Melissa McAlpine of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan are facing various charges.

The five alleged Westside Outlaws gang members took police on a two-hour 150-km chase that started in Lashburn and ended near Frenchman Butte. All five were charged with theft of a vehicle, storing a prohibited firearm, four counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm without a license, being a vehicle with an unauthorized firearm, possessing a prohibited firearm with accessible ammunition without registration, possession a firearm with an altered serial number, endangering the safety of the public, and flight from police.

Wanita Harper, along with Cheyenne Harper and Lyndon Belly, were arrested after fleeing from the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit on Aug. 15. The RCMP CRT was in Onion Lake Cree Nation Aug. 12 to 16 to help the Onion Lake RCMP combat street gang activity. On Aug. 15 the RCMP gang unit tried stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation, which was being driven by Wanita Harper. She refused to stop and sped away. Police initiated a pursuit and twice they put spike belts on Hwy 17 to stop the truck but Harper avoided the spike belts by driving off of the highway. Police followed the truck and saw three people run into a nearby house.
