Head of sales and marketing, Alison Roach-Plummer, said the event was hosted as a way to allow people to still celebrate
Christmas in the traditional way, but with all COVID-19 protocols in place.
“Normally, people would have their pork, their pan playing, parang and their pork. So it was done to encompass all those elements in a safe environment. I wanted to also embrace and encourage people, the small businesses especially who have been reeling and have been hurt by COVID, that they still had an opportunity to come out and be able to sell and feel the merriment of the season,” she said.

David “D2” Davis and Geoffrey Biggie Irie Cordle are the undisputed “hammists” of Barbados.
The pair eclipsed six other teams at the inaugural Pork, Pan and Parang Festival, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC) today, to earn bragging rights for a year in the Ham Bake-Off Competition.

Following the announcement by head judge Chef Gregory Austin, Davis broke out in song: “I would eat off a ham. And all my ham get eat off. It was good all the way down to the bone that somebody carry home the bone!”

The WorldSkills Barbados 2020 Closing/Awards Ceremony took place last Tuesday, December 1st, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC). The finals of the WSB 2020 Competition took place November 19 – 22.
Twenty-two students representing four local training institutions competed in six skill areas: Car Painting, Cooking, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing and Restaurant Service.
