Viral Arrest Footage Shows Woman s Racist Rant Against Latino Cop

A new video of a woman going off on a Latino cop calling him a “murderer,” a “Mexican racist,” and saying he’ll “never be white” has gone viral. In the clip taken last month in San Dimas, California, the woman who remains anonymous with a blurred face is pulled over by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy for reportedly using her phone while driving. The woman says she took her phone out to record the cop in case there any bad behavior ensued; he tells her she can’t do that while driving a vehicle.  When the deputy asks for the woman’s license, she adds that she “mistakenly left it at home,” then pulling up a photo of it on her phone. As she shows him the photo, she continues to call him a “murderer.”

California community college fall enrollment plunges

“I think as the lowest per-student funded institutions serving the most diverse, lowest-income Californians with the least amount of financial aid for nontuition costs in a time when we have national historic inequality, it s no surprise,” said Larry Galizio, president and CEO of the Community College League of California, an association for community college leaders in the state. Michele Siqueiros, president of the California-based Campaign for College Opportunity, pointed out that community colleges serve students most affected by the pandemic and its accompanying economic downturn. Our community colleges are where students who are most vulnerable really find their opportunity to go to college. We know that low-income students and students of color have been hardest hit by this pandemic, both in terms of actually contracting COVID and dying from COVID as well as actually losing jobs, she said. When our communities are disproportionately affected, we know that those student

Student Composers Debut New Music The Only Way They Can On Zoom

Tetractys New Music Players perform student compositions online. Unique among composition competitions, the Jack Stone Award for New Music is the only national music competition open solely to community college students. Last year, the coronavirus pandemic hit just before Northwest Vista College, the sponsoring college, could invite the winners to hear their pieces performed live before an audience. And with the pandemic continuing its march in 2021, Northwest Vista College hosted the 2020 and 2021 winners online on March 23. The performance, by Austin s Tetractys New Music (Peir Shiuan Tang, piano, Matthew Armbruster, cello, Christopher Demetriou, percussion) featured pieces by six composer awardees. In an email interview, 2020 winner Tim Naples of North Idaho College said, “The musicians nailed their parts. The months of mental sweat felt totally justified, as the experience was one that is truly unique to music and will be one I can always cherish.” Naples says he’s cur

Calls to change funding to increase faculty diversity at California Community Colleges

A prominent state lawmaker, advocates and a faculty association are calling for changes in how California funds efforts to bring diversity to community college faculties across the state. “There does need to be a fix to this issue,” Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager, D-Los Angeles, vice chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus, said in a statement. She is also a former trustee of the Los Angeles Community College District.  The calls came in response to an EdSource investigation published Monday that revealed how an arcane state law fails to adequately fund efforts to increase the diversity of the community colleges faculty which is largely white while the student body is richly diverse.
