The way education is delivered may look different these days, but American River College remains committed to preparing students for a more certain future, its new president says.
Melanie Dixon officially assumed the helm at ARC last month, after being named to the position late last year. Ms. Dixon previously served as Los Rios Community College District’s Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Student Success. She joined the district in 2014 as Dean of Student Services at Folsom Lake College.

Spring semester courses at the Sacramento City College Davis Center will be getting underway on Jan. 16. There are still a few days to register, but some popular classes are getting close to filling up.
Andrea Gaytan, dean of the SCC Davis Center, shared the following updates on spring semester courses and activities: “Our Spring courses at the Davis Center will be entirely online. Our faculty have worked very hard to provide dynamic online instruction for all subject areas taught at the Davis Center, including our science labs and art classes.”
PSU alumna to start college president role in 2021

Melanie Dixon will start a new job as president of American River College in January.
Portland State University alumna and former award-winning PSU administrator Melanie Dixon has been selected as the president of the Sacramento, Calif.-based American River College (ARC), which enrolls more than 30,000 students annually. Dixon starts her new leadership role January 1.
“I feel scared; I am excited; obviously, I’m incredibly humbled to lead a college the size of ARC and in a very large Community College system,” she says. “That’s very exciting to me and a great opportunity to transform lives, so I’m really looking forward to working with the faculty, the classified professionals and the students and seeing what kind of magic we can make together.”
