EU ministers urge action to protect juvenile political prisoners rights in Belarus 2021-06-01 BNS/TBT Staff VILNIUS – Ministers from Lithuania and ten other EU member states have called on the European Commission and Josep Borrell, the bloc s foreign policy chief, to take action to protect the rights of juvenile political prisoners in Belarus and to seek their release, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. Lukashenko s regime does not shy away from treating minors as a tool to pressure their parents who are being threatened with losing custody over their children for taking part in the ongoing protests, they said in a joint letter that was initiated by Lithuania.

Lithuania Expelling Two Belarusian Diplomats Amid Uproar Over Plane Arrests May 28, 2021 13:21 GMT Share share Print Lithuania says it is expelling two Belarusian diplomats accused of conducting activities incompatible with their diplomatic status amid international outrage over Belarus’s forced landing of a Vilnius-bound passenger flight in Minsk and the detention of a dissident journalist. The two members of staff at the Belarusian Embassy in Vilnius were given seven days to leave the country, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on May 28. Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said the decision was also “an expression of solidarity” with Latvia, which saw its entire embassy staff expelled from Belarus.
