View Comments Over 600 vehicles were screened this weekend in the Bossier Sheriff’s office sobriety checkpoint and only one DWI arrest was made.  Bossier Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Louisiana State Police troopers, conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday in the 6000 block of Highway 3 in Benton.  Law enforcement officers conducted 23 standardized field sobriety tests while screening 605 vehicles between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight.  During the checkpoint, law enforcement officers issued one traffic citation for an unrestrained child who was riding in the front seat. “The arrest number was unusually low, but we are hopeful that means we have been successful in delivering our public message that the Bossier Sheriff’s Office has a zero-tolerance policy regarding impaired driving,” Dep. The checkpoint will begin at 10 p.m. and will run until 3 a.m. This checkpoint is in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies to emphasize the commitment to make the streets of Shreveport safe for everyone. Officers will be checking for impaired drivers and violations of the state’s seatbelt law along with any other violations that could potentially compromise the safety of people on the roadways. The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission provides funding for the initiative. The Louisiana State Police and the Caddo Parish Sheriff Department will be assisting in the checkpoint.
