Amazon has selected Carencro as the site of its first fulfillment center in Louisiana, with the 500 job facility expected to open a year from now.
Governor Edwards said Amazon is investing 100 million dollars in the Lafayette Parish project.
“In Carencro Amazon will handle large and bulky items like products for outdoor trips, kayaks, that sort of thing. Power equipment to maintain your lawn, rugs to decorate your homes, and so many other things,” said Edwards.
Amazon already operates two regional delivery stations in the state in New Orleans and Baton Rouge along with seven Whole Foods stores. The company also says they’ll be conducting Amazon Prime air operations out of Louis Armstrong International Airport. Amazon currently employs about 1,500 Louisianans.
