Organizers called off the event because a new homeless encampment that has sprung up along the city's scenic waterfront could soon be moved to the festival's site.
Sausalito s Famed Labor Day Art Festival Getting Canceled Over Homeless Encampment
An impasse over a homeless encampment in a downtown Sausalito park has led organizers of the city s annual art festival over Labor Day Weekend to say the festival is being canceled for the second year in a row.
COVID-19 restrictions aren t to blame for the fact that the Sausalito Art Festival isn t happening this year. But between a disagreement among residents and city leaders over the use of one waterfront park for the festival, and a delay in a decision by a federal judge over the possible relocation of a homeless encampment from one park to another, festival organizers say they have run out of time to make the event happen in September.

DALLAS Dallas City Council got an earful from residents on Wednesday, as the general public had its first chance to comment on short-term rentals in the city.
The phrase short-term rentals, or STRs, is shorthand for the rooms and houses rented for days, weeks or longer through AirBNB and Vrbo. Some of the 78 people who Zoomed their thoughts waited hours to speak because of a delay in the council agenda.
Still, when the time came, they were ready.
“They’ve infiltrated our neighborhood,” said Laura Palmer from the Bishop Arts district of STRs.
Others described parking jams, burglaries and noise they attributed to these properties.
Blewett and District 9 council member Paula Blackmon helped lead a short-term rental task force that presented several recommendations to the Quality of Life, Arts, and Culture Committee on Tuesday, including occupancy and noise limits. During the virtual meeting, Blewett said many of his constituents would like to see an outright ban on short-term rentals.
Other council members also empathized with single-family neighborhood residents who are plagued by perpetual parties.
“If my neighbor next door put a party house in the backyard that they rented out nightly for parties with 20 to 30 people, that is like my worst nightmare,” said District 1’s Chad West.
