Letterkenny courthouse where, due to a backlog created by the pandemic, some cases are having to be listed for May 2022.

At Monday’s sitting of the local court several contested matters were adjourned into next May.
The Courts Service said the backlog was due to Covid restrictions which have severely hampered normal judicial proceedings.

A spokesperson told the Donegal News there is a possibility contests will be rescheduled for later this year. But as it stands cases are being listed for May 19 2022.
“There are two hearing days each month in Letterkenny – on the first Thursday and third Thursday,” said the Courts Service.

A MAN who got the wrong order in a McDonald’s restaurant verbally attacked the manager and invited him outside the premises, a court heard today.
Thomas McDonagh appeared at Letterkenny District Court in Co Donegal charged with a public order offence at the fast-food outlet on Pearse Road in Letterkenny on October 11th, 2019.

Gardai said they were called to McDonald’s at 5pm and found a large number of youths gathered at the McDonald’s branch.
McDonagh, aged 33, was inside and was in a highly-agitated state and was pointing at the manager of the fast food outlet.
Gardaà have seized approximately â¬21,000 worth of suspected cocaine following the search of a car in Lifford yesterday.
The seizure was made shortly after 5.30pm on Tuesday when Gardaà attached to the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a car travelling in the area.
A search was conducted and during the course of this, a quantity of cocaine (pending analysis) valued at â¬20,000 was detected and seized.
A follow up search of a house in Mannorcunningham was conducted and a further quantity of suspected cocaine was seized.
One man in his mid-30s was arrested in connection with this seizure. He was detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
