The county s weekly positivity rate continues to climb, increasing from 18.6% to 22.3% this week. Polk County has a  high level of community transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s data tracker. Roughly 55% of counties in the U.S. have this designation indicating more than 100 new cases per 100,000 residents.  Florida saw a similar uptick with 110,477 new COVID cases in the past week, a 51% uptick since a week prior. That brings the state s total to 2,590,699 infected by the virus. There were 108 deaths reported in the past week, increasing the state s fatalities to 39,079. Statewide, most of the new cases are being reported in individuals between the ages of 20 and 39. These age groups continue to see less than 50% of the population vaccinated.
