At one hospital trust, medics have been told they may have to accept a “just good enough” standard of care for patients in coming weeks, while the medical regulator has said it recognised difficult decisions were being made “day after day, shift after shift” across the country. The situation facing many hospitals has prompted renewed calls for national advice to clinicians on how they should approach the so-called rationing of care – where treatment choices are balanced against the resources available and the needs of other patients.

Long Covid clinic set up by Ipswich and Colchester Hospital

Published: 8:40 AM December 18, 2020    Updated: 3:39 PM December 18, 2020 It s not known how many people in Suffolk are facing the effects of long covid - Credit: Getty Images/iStockphoto A specialist clinic to help people suffering from the long-term effects of Covid-19 has been set up by a Suffolk NHS trust.  The Suffolk and North East Essex Long Covid Assessment Service (SNELCAS) is a virtual clinic which will refer patients directly to the appropriate services or specialist clinics for their needs. Long Covid is defined as symptoms that develop during or following an infection consistent with Covid-19 which continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis.
