SEATTLE – The first scheduled day of going to school in a year did not go as planned for Seattle parents and students. District officials planned to bring back kindergartners and first graders, but the Seattle Education Association refused.
Nearby Northshore School District was the first in the nation to go all remote when the pandemic hit last year. Students are still all remote, and many parents are angry worrying about their children. They re lonely, they re isolated, they re depressed, their grades are down, said Karli Geller, who has two kids in Northshore Schools. She and her husband are also teachers.
Japanese Teacher Seriously Injured in Seattle Attack

The attack on Noriko Nasu in the Chinatown/International District was caught on surveillance video.
SEATTLE A GoFundMe page has been established for a Japanese-language teacher who is the victim of an apparent hate crime.
The incident, which was caught on surveillance video, is one of several anti-Asian assaults being reported nationwide.
“Noriko Nasu was attacked in Seattle’s International District on Thursday, Feb. 25,” writes Kristina DeLeo, a concerned citizen. “Knocked unconscious by a man wielding a rock in a sock, Ms. Nasu suffered multiple fractures to her nose, broken teeth, bruising and a concussion. Her partner, Mark Poffenbarger, was also injured in the attack, receiving multiple stitches for his wounds. This is being investigated as a racially motivated attack.

The Northshore School District is reeling after a savage attack on one of its teachers.
According to Seattle police, Noriko Nasu and her boyfriend were walking through the Chinatown-International District on Thursday, Feb. 25, when a random man approached them.
Nasu told police the man carried a rock inside a sock and used it as a nunchuck, leading to devastating results.
In a Facebook post, Nasu said she suffered from extensive fractures to her face and teeth, causing her to be treated at Harborview Medical Center.
Seattle police still haven’t been able to identify the man who attacked Nasu.

BOTHELL, Wash Parents from the Northshore School District took to the streets of downtown Bothell Wednesday afternoon to air their frustrations with Superintendent Michelle Reid.
Parents held signs saying Reid Must Lead and Free Our Children during rush hour traffic. It s very frustrating, said one parent. I don t even have a word to describe it, said another. I don t think my child has learned at all during the past month, added Maria Khilyuk, the working mother of a first-grader. I am not a teacher. I am certainly not a first-grade teacher. I cannot provide those services to my child.
