Body found on Outer Banks beach By WITN Web Team | April 9, 2021 at 1:57 PM EDT - Updated April 9 at 4:04 PM DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Authorities say a man’s body washed up Friday morning on an Outer Banks beach. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore says a local resident found the body around 9:15 a.m. between Salvo and Avon. It appeared that the body had been in the ocean “for an extended period of time”, according to the National Park Service. The remains will be taken to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office. The family of a Maryland truck driver who has been missing since late December posted on social media that it was the body of Erik Mezick. The 47-year-old man was driving a box truck that went off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on December 29th.
