THE FOUNDATION of modern life has changed over the past year. Many of us are working from home and many of our kids are attending virtual school.
The pandemic has also highlighted the divide between rural and urban communities when it comes to high-speed broadband internet access.
Everyone deserves access to high-speed internet, and partnerships like the one recently announced by All Points Broadband, Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC), and Dominion Energy in Virginiaâs Northern Neck are bringing diverse organizations together to tackle this challenge head on.
As the chair of the Broadband Advisory Council, I have worked to support partnerships like this, which will be critical to deploy broadband in some of the most difficult-to-serve regions in our commonwealth.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. A likely tornado knocked down trees and knocked out power in the Northern Neck on Monday.
It damaged at least two homes in Northumberland County, according to county officials.
Neighbors reported seeing a funnel cloud at about 3:20 p.m.
The Northern Neck Electric Cooperative reported, significant damage to power lines.

Possible Tornado Causes Damages in Northumberland County
A likely tornado knocked down trees and knocked out power on Lewisetta Road in the Northern Neck on Monday.
Nortumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp said that there were no injuries and he reported that two homes were damaged and one totally destroyed.
The funnel cloud was reported at about 3:20 and was first reported near Bethany Church on Route 360 It took a path behind the Callao Fire House, and then to the Chambers Lane, Old Farm Lane and the Lewisetta road area.
The Northern Neck Electric Cooperative reported, “significant damage” to power line and at least 700 members affected. As of 10pm Monday night, NNEC had restored power to over 600 members.

The funnel cloud sighted and damage to homes was seen on Lewisetta Road and Chambers Lane. Northern Neck Electric Cooperative reported over 700 members lost power from fallen lines and it took several hours to restore service.
