In Del Mar, crews will continue tieback anchor installation along previously placed support columns into the bluffs south of Fourth Street as part of emergency repairs following a bluff collapse in late February. Tieback anchors are steel wires that will help reinforce the bluffs and protect the tracks. The work includes welding, testing anchors and pouring concrete. Emergency stabilization repairs are expected to be complete by summer.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - All rail services from Solana Beach to San Diego will shut down just after midnight through early Monday morning to accommodate Del Mar Bluff stabilization emergency repairs, according to the San Diego Association of Governments.
The regional rail closure impacts the North County Transit District, Amtrak and freight carrier BNSF and will be in effect from just after midnight Saturday through Monday at 4 a.m.

Coaster commuter service currently suspended between Oceanside and San Diego
Coaster service suspensions are occuring for Del Mar Bluff repairs.

Beginning this past Saturday and continuing through tomorrow, Coaster has suspended service between Oceanside and San Diego for emergency Del Mar Bluff repairs.
The line is expected to reopen early tomorrow morning.
In addition to the extended rail closure this [past] weekend, two partial rail closures between the Solana Beach Station and Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego will take place to accommodate additional emergency bluff repairs:
• Saturday, April 24, at 12 a.m. through Monday, April 26, at 4 a.m.
The incident caused SANDAG to suspend rail service temporarily over concerns of further collapse. Later, geotechnical experts determined that train service can be operated safely at a reduced speed, according to the City of Del Mar. Steel beams are being used to support bluffs underneath coastal train tracks to prevent erosion. NBC 7 s Joe Little has more on the bluff stabilization project.
But beachgoers were still warned to avoid sitting, standing or walking within 50 feet of the bluffs on the beach below due to cracks at the top of the bluffs that posed a risk.
The cliffs are increasingly threatened by coastal erosion. SANDAG s work includes drilling holes into the bluffs, placing anchors and filling the holes with concrete.
