Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has ordered that Free State MEC for agriculture, William Bulwane, “apologise” to beneficiaries of the failed R250m Estina Dairy Farm project and “revive” the project, leading to more questions over whether her remedial action addresses the actual issue of the complaint. In her findings released on Monday, the public protector found that former Free State premier Ace Magashule and former Agriculture MEC, Mosebenzi Zwane, failed to practice oversight in the Vrede dairy farm project. Mkhwebane said there was political interference in the project that saw millions of Rands meant for the development of black farmers channelled.

Johannesburg - The man who laid criminal charges of perjury against Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and subsequently wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa asking him to suspend her has denied that he is furthering a political agenda against her.
Advocate Paul Hoffman, who has a history of laying complaints against Mkhwebane, has also poured cold water on suggestions that he implored the president to push out Mkhwebane as a pre-emptive strike aimed at paving the way for her removal by Parliament, which is scheduled to hold an inquiry into her fitness for office in the new year.

Stateâs vaccine plans could be challenged by Health Justice Initiative

Pretoria â The Health Justice Initiative (HJI) is threatening to go to court to get access to plans for the planned roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines in South Africa, while the DA is to complain formally that the deadline for a down payment for the Covax programme to procure and distribute a Covid-19 vaccines was missed.
This week the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) announced it would perform rolling reviews of the safety and efficacy of all vaccine candidates, and that it had received its first submission from Johnson & Johnson.
EFF considering Concourt appeal over Manuel defamation case

Cape Town â The EFF says it is currently consulting with its senior legal counsel on the prospects of an appeal to the Constitutional Court after the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled this week that the partyâs 2019 remarks about former finance minister Trevor Manuel were defamatory and false.
This follows the SCA s judgment this week that the EFF s allegations of nepotism and corruption regarding Manuelâs role in the appointment of Edward Kiesswetter as South African Revenue Services Commissioner in May 2019 were indeed defamatory and false.
At the time, the EFF had referred to Kiesswetter as a âdodgy characterâ and that he had ties to Manuel because they were not only related but were also business associates.
