ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 102 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, 94 of which are among Alaska residents. The state reported no additional deaths related to the virus, leaving the total number of Alaska resident deaths tied to COVID-19 at 342. A total of six nonresidents have also died with COVID-19 while in the state. Alaska continues to have one of the lowest death rates in the country. The 94 new Alaska resident cases of COVID-19 reported Tuesday were identified among residents of the following communities:

With local virus transmissions rising exponentially, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is reporting record-high admissions of Covid patients who tend to be younger and sometimes angrier than at the beginning of the pandemic, health officials said Friday. Foundation Health Partners leaders provided a Covid-19 update, pointing out the record-high admission rate at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and describing changes in patient demographics. Averaging at 10 and 11 new Covid patients per day this past week, the hospital had 12 Covid-19 patients on Friday and two more who were suspected to have the virus, said FHP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Angelique Ramirez. “We are really struggling right now; we have a record-high number of patients in the hospital,” Shelley Ebenal, FHP CEO and quality medical director, said.

The state reported no additional deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday, leaving the total number of Alaska residents whose deaths have been related to the virus at 341. A total of six nonresidents have died with COVID-19 while in Alaska. The 158 new Alaska resident cases reported Wednesday were identified among residents of the following communities: Anchorage: 49 Ketchikan: 2 Seward: 1 Utqiaġvik: 1 In a press release, state also reported three new COVID-19 cases among nonresidents on Thursday one in Juneau, Wasilla and one in an unknown location.

201 new COVID-19 cases reported in Alaska Wednesday Megan Pacer © Provided by Anchorage KTUU-TV Coronavirus ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 201 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, and no additional deaths tied to the virus. Alaska’s statewide alert level remains high, according to DHSS, based on the average daily case rate per 100,000 people over a two week period. The Skagway municipality ranks first among Alaska municipalities and boroughs in terms of the number of eligible residents who have gotten the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough continues to rank second to last, with around 32% of its eligible population having gotten an initial shot.
