Effort raises almost $34,000 for North Country Food Bank

The people of northwest and west central Minnesota helped to raise $33,965.13 for local families in need through Walmart and Sam’s Club’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign. In its eighth year, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates engaged their customers and members, along with 27 participating suppliers to help fight hunger and feed hope.
“Our neighbors are facing difficult times, and one in 10 are struggling to find their next meal. North Country Food Bank is incredibly grateful for Walmart, Sam’s Club, their associates, suppliers, customers and members who helped to support the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign,” said Susie Novak Boelter, executive director of North Country Food Bank.

Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union to hold Coins for a Cause event
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in Bemidji will host a Coins for a Cause event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, for the community to donate their spare change in an effort to help combat hunger.

BEMIDJI Spare change piling up? You can put those pesky coins to good use by donating to neighbors in need during this holiday season.
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in Bemidji, 2800 Hannah Ave. NW, will host a Coins for a Cause event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, for the community to donate their spare change in an effort to help combat hunger.

“Although we are excited to provide funding for direct services, we are still concerned that the need for financial relief is greater than our limited resources can handle,” states Nate Dorr, vice president for advocacy at Northwest Minnesota Foundation in Bemidji. “We encourage folks to remain diligent in practicing public health recommendations so we can get back to normal quicker.”
This was the second round of emergency relief grant funding from the foundation to provide direct assistance to communities most in need. Dorr says the foundation is posting recorded video interviews with grantees on their website. The recorded storytelling is a way of sharing how communities are meeting the challenges of the pandemi
