Coronavirus Update: N H Reports 624 New Cases; 4 New Institutional Outbreaks

LIVE BLOG - CORONAVIRUS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE: 624 new COVID-19 cases, four new outbreaks announced Update: Tuesday, Dec. 22, 3:45 p.m. New Hampshire health officials announced 624 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, and no new patient deaths. According to state epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan, New Hampshire s test positivity rate is holding steady at around 9.1%.  Current active cases in New Hampshire number 6,485, with 297 patients hospitalized with the virus. So far, 656 residents have died from the virus, including 52 in the last week, Chan said. Chan also said that in order to mitigate the spread of the virus, the state is encouraging anyone who has symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested for the coronavirus.

70 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at Berlin prison

The Department of Corrections reported Monday that 70 residents and four staff members at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility have COVID-19. The number of resident cases have more than doubled since Dec. 14 and that has Berlin Mayor Paul Grenier concerned. “I think it’s community spread that actually brought it (COVID-19) into the facility and from there it just took off like a wildfire,” said Grenier. “The one thing we do know is that it’s pretty much concentrated” at the Berlin state prison, Grenier said, “but some of their employees have spouses who work in nursing homes and there’s fear of community spread” from those folks into the Coos County and St. Vincent de Paul nursing homes in Berlin.

Coronavirus Cases Among New Hampshire Prison Inmates Skyrocket

By NANCY WEST, InDepthNH.org CONCORD, NH In less than three weeks, the number of state prison inmates with active cases of COVID-19 has skyrocketed from six to 152, with 31 of those in the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin, according to the state Department of Corrections website. Subscribe The number of state prison staff on Monday with active COVID-19 was 21. There were no active COVID-19 cases at the federal prison in Berlin Monday, but they did report three staff members being positive. Subscribe The biggest increase for the state prison system was at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord that reported 118 active cases, 2 cases in the prison psychiatric units and one at transitional housing units in either Manchester or Concord.
