The following is from Kilpatrick Funeral Homes & Cemeteries: Congressman-elect Luke Joshua Letlow, from Start, Louisiana, passed away from complications due to COVID-19 on December 29, 2020. He was born to Johnny and Dianne Letlow on December 6, 1979, in Richland Parish, Louisiana.

Letlow, a Republican from Start, served as Abraham s chief of staff for three terms. Abraham also read a message from Gov. John Bel Edwards, who said Letlow will be remembered for strength, courage and love for his family . and his public service to the great state of Louisiana. Letlow s family released the following statement before the funeral: We are heartbroken to have lost Luke far too early, and with far too much promise, but we are immensely grateful for all that Luke achieved in a life defined by service to others and a steadfast commitment to making a real difference in this world. The incredible outpouring of support from across our community, state, and country is a testament to how many lives Luke impacted through his friendship, leadership and genuine goodness. Luke Letlow underwent surgery for a blood clot before having a heart attack and dying

He was undergoing treatment for the virus at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport Letlow had developed a COVID-related blood clot and underwent two procedures to treat it The second follow-up procedure appeared to go to plan on Tuesday  Letlow then suffered a heart attack later that day and died  His death sent shockwaves through the government and the nation given his age and that he had no underlying health conditions He is the first federally-elected official to die from the infection  The 41-year-old s funeral is planned for Saturday afternoon at North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe  Weeks before his death he held campaign rallies indoors and outdoors 

Funeral set for congressman-elect who contracted COVID-19

Abraham noted that Letlow was known for the relationships he forged. “Luke loved Louisiana. He loved traveling down country roads with potholes, going to Lea’s in Lecompte for pie and milk and talking to the locals,” he said. Abraham urged friends and family to plant a tree in Letlow’s memory. “Plant a tree that you have to water and nurture and watch grow. And every time you pass that tree, you’ll remember Luke and smile and embrace that warm feeling that comes to your heart as you go about your day. He wants us to be happy, courageous and strong. The way we honor and remember Luke Letlow is to build that type of life.”
