Canvass alternative methods of livestock production
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) may have been hit by the reality that open grazing is no longer fashionable in modern society. x
In a communiqué yesterday after their virtual meeting on Monday, the forum noted: “The current system of herding mainly through open grazing is no longer sustainable, in view of growing urbanisation and population of the country.”
Consequently, it resolved to sensitise herders on the need to adopt new methods of herding, either by ranching or other acceptable modern methods.
It appealed to the Federal Government to support states with grants to directly undertake pilot projects of modern livestock production that would serve as a springboard for the full implementation of new methods of livestock production.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Danladi Atu, said the decision was taken to take away fears and controversies surrounding the vaccines.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Engineer Abubakar Gambo Umar, in his welcome address, said the seminar was organised to sensitise the general public and provide answers to all the issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and its vaccines.
In their presentations, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaibu, and Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, an epidemiologist, gave various insights into the efficacy of the vaccines.

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State of Plateau State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to hasten the implementation of National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) to address the challenges posed by frequent herders-farmers clashes in the country.
Governor Lalong made the call while fielding questions from State House reporters after a closed meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Northern States Governor’s Forum (NSGF) on Thursday, said its members have agreed to take the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine when it arrives Nigeria.
The Chairman NSGF, Governor of Plateau State, Honorable Simon Lalong in a webinar organized by an NGO, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), gave the assurance on behalf of his colleagues.
The safety and efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine were also discussed.
Represented by the Secretary to the Plateau State Government (SSG), Professor Danladi Atu, Lalong said: “we the Northern Governors have agreed to take the first doses of the vaccines”.

A lecturer from the Department of Community Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Clara Ejembi, on Thursday said the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination does not prevent infection.
Speaking during a webinar organized by an NGO, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), Professor Ejembi noted that the need for people to continue to practice preventive measures is important and all actors must be on board.
This was as Northern States Governor’s Forum (NSGF) said its members have agreed to take the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine when it arrives in Nigeria.
