Masari: The North is Not Afraid of Restructuring

Francis Sardauna in Katsina Katsina State governor and Chairman North-west Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has dismissed insinuations that northerners are not favourably disposed to the persistent clamour for the restructuring of the country. He said it was important for Nigerians, particularly those spearheading the affairs of political offices to discuss the way and manner the country would be restructured to promote fairness and equitable allocation of both human and natural resources for the good of all. Masari, who spoke in an exclusive interview with THISDAY recently, noted that it was false and misleading to say that prominent politicians in the region were against the restructuring of Africa’s most populous country.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today which aired on Wednesday, Masari challenged the Islamic cleric to a debate. “Was he there? What did he know about what we did in Kaduna? I challenge Gumi to come and tell us if he knows what we did in Kaduna,” the governor said in reaction to Gumi’s stance on how the state government is handling banditry. “The stories they are telling him are the stories they said in 2015, the same story in 2019. What does he know about the forest? Is he victimizing killings?”

Masari made this known  while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’. The governor said the security situation in the country has improved since the emergence of the All Progressives Congress government at the centre in 2015. He said, “When we started in 2015 in the North-West, it was cattle-rustling. Gradually, it now developed into banditry, rape, kidnappings. When all that they (bandits) can steal from the villagers along the fringes finished, they moved to the rustling of goats, sheep, and even chicken.
