MERSEYSIDE Fire & Rescue Service s community support throughout the pandemic has been praised in a new report. The recognition comes from Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) following an inspection in September. Inspectors said Merseyside firefighters had adapted and responded to the pandemic effectively , continuing to respond to calls from the public and attend emergencies whilst also taking on additional roles and responsibilities to support other blue light and public services that were experiencing high levels of demand. Since the pandemic began, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service has worked with charities, local authorities and football clubs to deliver 4,102 prescriptions, 1,414 food parcels and 390 health and wellbeing parcels to the most vulnerable members of our community.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon and involved a Ford Transit. The Cumbria Constabulary and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene. It is understood it happened on a minor road close to The Range store, at the junction with Currock Road. At the time a Cumbria Constabulary spokesman confirmed that: “Police were contacted at 2.16pm today (January 22) to a report of a collision on Currock Road, Carlisle. “A Ford Transit van was in collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, is currently being looked after by medical staff. “The driver of the Ford, a man in his 50s, remains uninjured.”

Coombe & Sharpe Landscape Ltd released a statement yesterday sending their condolences to the family of Cameron Taylor, from Whitehaven. Mr Taylor, known to friends and Kells ARL teammates as Tadge, suddenly died on Friday following an incident at Lillyhall industrial estate. Directors Paul Coombe and Alan Sharpe said: “We are devastated by his death and are working with the Health & Safety Executive and the police to establish exactly what happened.
