Residents are being urged to act responsibly on what should be a quieter Mad Friday . Image: PA NORTHWICH residents are being urged to drink responsibly while enjoying themselves in what will be a different festive season to the norm. The Friday before Christmas is commonly known as ‘Mad Friday’ – as festive partygoers usually fill up pubs and bars to celebrate, and this leads to a rise in demand on paramedics as they deal with alcohol-related incidents. Tonight, December 18, will be much different – as Northwich pubs can only serve alcohol with a substantial meal under Tier 2 Covid rules, while households cannot mix indoors, although six people can meet in outdoor spaces.
A man in his 50s was taken to hospital after the collision, which took place in Dalton. Police said a Ford Transit van and Volkswagen car collided near to Billings Road. The North West Ambulance Service said the van driver sustained injuries not thought be life-threatening while the other driver suffered minor injuries and was not taken to hospital. Group manager Jon Griffiths was among the firefighters dispatched to the scene just before 11am on Wednesday. He described how firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver and allow him to be taken into the care of paramedics. When we got there the driver was still inside, he said. Police had cordoned off the area for ambulance crews.
