NEW DELHI: Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the ongoing Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) national project in Jammu and Kashmir and said the “aspirations” of the people have to be fulfilled by completing the project so that the region remains connected to other parts of the country round the year.
Besides Goyal, Railway Board Chairman and CEO V.K. Yadav, Northern Railway General Manager Ashutosh Gangal and Chief Administrative Officer of USBRL project Vijay Sharma were also present during the meeting.
Sharma apprised Goyal about the latest status of work on the last leg of the project between Katra-Banihal.

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], December 16 (ANI): Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line is expected to be completed by 2022, said Northern Railways General Manager Ashutosh Gangal on Tuesday. We are expecting to complete Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line (272-km) by December 2022. Work is going on in full swing at the 111-km section. Out of this 111-km section, 97-km-long line will be laid in a tunnel, he said.
The 272-km long Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line was being built at a cost of Rs 27,949 crores.
Talking about the progress in railway line Gangal said that it was the linking project of Jammu to Srinagar to Baramulla which has been decided to complete in four steps. Because of its challenges. JAMMU: The Northern Railway will be completing the most difficult 111-kilometre long section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link by December 2022 that would connect Kashmir to the rest of India through the railway network, a senior official said on Tuesday.
“The work is going on in full swing. The prestigious project will be completed by the end of 2022”, Northern Railway General Manager Ashutosh Gangal told reporters here.
The 272 km railway line is being undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 28,000 crore by the Northern Railway.
He said that the first section connecting Udhampur to Katra and the third section between Banihal and Baramulla have been completed with both sections operational. The work to complete the most difficult Katra-Banihal section is going as per schedule, he added.
