But then, tearing through the cities’ eastern edges, stands the six-lane McGrath Highway, much of it elevated on a hefty overpass to carry a heavy load of commuter traffic along Route 28.

Construction look-ahead through March 6 – Chelsea Record

This is a brief overview of construction operations and traffic impacts for the Tobin Bridge/Chelsea Curves Rehabilitation Project. MassDOT will provide additional notices as needed for high-impact work, temporary ramp and street closures, and changes to traffic configurations beyond those described below. ROUTE 1 TRAFFIC IMPACTS ROUTE 1 NORTHBOUND: Approaching the Tobin Bridge from Boston, the work zone begins in the right lane. 2 of 3 travel lanes will be open during daytime hours (5 a.m.–10 p.m.) ROUTE 1 SOUTHBOUND: Approaching the Chelsea Curves from the North Shore, the work zone is in the median. All 3 travel lanes are open during the daytime hours (5 a.m.–10 p.m.)

Pedestrian struck and killed in Charlestown; police have located ‘a vehicle of interest’ By Emily Sweeney Globe Staff,Updated January 5, 2021, 12:39 p.m. Email to a Friend A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday in Charlestown, police said. The person was apparently struck by the vehicle at about 11:32 a.m. and was found at the corner of Rutherford Avenue and Chelsea Street, Boston Police Sergeant Detective John Boyle said. Officers responded and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Boyle said the preliminary investigation showed that the person appeared to have been struck near the intersection of Chelsea and 13th streets, and the body was found about three-quarters of a mile away in City Square.
