Digitalisation for the benefit of the environment: Council approves conclusions

Digitalisation for the benefit of the environment: Council approves conclusions The Council today approved conclusions addressing the twin societal challenge of digital transformation and green transition and exploring ways to contribute to building the necessary bridges between them. This is very ambitious, but also fully needed, in order to deliver on the legally binding Paris Agreement, which has a mandate to limit global warming to well below 2, but preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels. The European Green Deal is the European Commission’s overarching plan for making the EU’s economy climate-neutral, by overcoming the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.

But most such plastics only degrade in specific environments and should only be used in line with new recommendations from the European Commission’s independent Group of Chief Scientific Advisors (GCSA), led by Oxford Professor Nicole Grobert.
