Washington DC: The US Department of Defence on Thursday blacklisted nine more Chinese corporations, including phone maker Xiaomi for allegedly being owned or controlled by China s military.
The Department had in June 2020 released to Congress, its initial list of companies that are deemed to have military ties while operating as civilian firms. It added to the list more companies in December 2020. With Thursday s updated list there are now over 40 companies that have been blacklisted.

Jan. 15 (UPI) The Trump administration imposed fresh sanctions against Chinese firms and military over its reckless and belligerent actions in the South China Sea as well as labeled nine companies including Xiaomi as military controlled and added a government oil company to its Entity List.
The Departments of Commerce, State and Defense separately announced actions targeting the People s Republic of China on Thursday, moves that are expected to further fray an already fraught relationship between Washington and Beijing in the days before the Biden administration assumes power.

The Defence Department released names of additional Communist Chinese military companies operating directly or indirectly in the United States in accordance with the statutory requirement of Section 1237 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1999, as amended.
