New Delhi [India], December 21 (ANI): India s population of leopards has gone up 60 per cent and the country now has 12,852 leopards, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said on Monday.
Releasing the Status of Leopards report in New Delhi today, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar said that increase in numbers of Tigers, Lions and Leopards over the last few years is a testimony to the conservation efforts and of the fledgling wildlife and biodiversity of the country.

Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday announced that a “60 per cent increase has been recorded in the population count of leopards in India from 2014 estimates’’.
The 2014 estimates placed the population of leopards at nearly 8,000 which has increased to 12,852.
