NFL stages Careers in Football Forum for HBCU students

This week, more than 150 students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities attended the 2020 NFL HBCU Careers in Football Forum, the fifth of its kind.
The Forum has introduced more than 300 students and entry-level athletic department administrators to career opportunities in professional football. Participants hear from sports industry professionals and get networking opportunities. This year’s attendees represented 39 institutions.

On Monday, the school announced it will become a community center for Coding and Creativity as part of Apple’s Community Education Initiative and Tennessee State University’s HBCU C2 initiative designed to bring coding and creativity experiences to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their communities.
Last week, the institution announced that it’s receiving a grant from Alabama Power and its parent, Southern Company, to support the Miles College Empowerment Center for Digital Excellence in Careers and Education (M-Power Center). The gift is part of Southern Company and its subsidiaries’ $50 million HBCU Initiative, a multiyear funding strategy announced in January 2020 that provides HBCU students with scholarships, internships, leadership development and access to technology and innovation to support career readiness.

East Bay News reported Ray died on Nov. 18. Ray, the eldest of seven children, was born in New Orleans in 1931. She later moved to California with her family. After graduating from Oakland Technical High School in 1948, Ray obtained a degree in Recreation and Theatre Arts from UC Berkeley in 1953. Ray worked in the Bay Area then moved to Europe, where she served as a recreation and entertainment director with the U.S. Special Services in Germany from 1954-59.
Ray was bit by the acting bug in the 1960s. She returned from Europe and helped create The Aldridge Players-West, an acting troupe based in San Francisco that toured Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
