14 The West Virginia National Guard had numerous significant accomplishments in 2020 that included homeland and disaster response missions, deployments around the globe, and sustained activation to help West Virginia combat the deadly SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic. “2020 has been a year like no other,” said Maj. Gen. James Hoyer, the Adjutant General of the WVNG. “Yet the men and women of the West Virginia National Guard have answered the call to not only meet but to exceed expectations, and to overcome the daunting challenges faced. The more than 6,400 Soldiers, Airmen, and civilians of our Guard have dedicated themselves to demonstrating our unique capabilities and deep dedication to service on the local, state, national and international stage throughout the year. I couldn’t be prouder of the accomplishments of our team and know they will continue to remain an integral and vital force for good both at home and abroad.”

VPRJ: 78 inmates test positive for COVID-19 | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

The Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail tested all its staff members and inmates for the coronavirus last week. The results? 78 inmates and seven staff members are positive for the virus. “All 78 inmates who tested positive are currently asymptomatic, this is in addition to the single inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 last week,” according to the VPRJ’s Facebook post on Dec. 24. On Dec. 22, VPRJ announced in a news release they would test all the jail’s inmates and staff for the coronavirus after an inmate and an unknown number of staff members tested positive the week before. Around 450 tests were administered by the Virginia Army National Guard and the Virginia Department of Health.

Wooton to be sworn in as newest state Supreme Court Justice on December 30

CHARLESTON – William R. “Bill” Wooton will be sworn in December 30 as a West Virginia Supreme Court Justice. The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Supreme Court chambers at the state Capitol. Although invitations were previously extended, because of the COVID Pandemic, the ceremony will now be held virtually by webcast. To protect the health and safety of everyone involved, the public and previously invited guests will not be admitted to participate in person. Those previously invited may participate remotely by tuning in to the live webcast on the West Virginia Judiciary YouTube Channel.  Wooton was elected June 9 to the seat being vacated by Justice Margaret Workman, who is retiring effective December 31.
