As the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the United States last spring, PCAA went into action. They raised more than $16,000 in order to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care providers. As the demand for PPE continued to increase, members of PCAA reached out to their own connections and were able to provide 15,000 more pieces of PPE, including N95 masks, medical gloves, goggles, and protective coveralls. World Mission Society Church of God teams up with Virginia Peninsula Food Bank to help local food pantries Wendell Franks and last updated 2020-12-29 09:04:58-05 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The World Mission Society Church of God partnered with Virginia Peninsula Food Bank to hold a food drive, and Wednesday they will deliver 4,000 pounds of food donations to local food pantries. At 1:30 p.m., volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God will load non-perishable food items into a delivery truck that will be sent to the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank. Volunteers gathered goods from their workplaces, going door-to-door and tabling events in the Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake areas.

Alva Harris Simms, 85, former instructor and supervisory training specialist at Fort Eustis

Alva Harris Simms WILLIAMSBURG Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. Alva Harris Simms, 85, peacefully passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. Master Sgt. Simms served more than 26 years as a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He completed two tours in Vietnam, three tours in Germany and one in Turkey. His decorations included the Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and eight Good Conduct medals. Upon retiring from active duty, Master Sgt. Simms was employed for 20 years at the U.S. Army Transportation School, Fort Eustis, as an instructor and supervisory training specialist. He received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service when he retired from civilian service.
