CHATHAM, Va.  — At a special meeting Wednesday night, Chatham Town Council voted in favor of advertising an increase in water, sewer and trash collection rates in the town. Under the proposed increase, in-town water customers would see a hike from $5.14 to $5.30 per 1,000 gallons. Out-of-town customers would see prices go up from $8.55 to $8.98 per 1,000 gallons. In-town sewer rates would increase from $6.39 to $6.59, and out-of-town sewer rates would jump from $11.90 to $12.50. Overall, water and sewer rates would increase 3 percent for in-town customers and 5 percent for out-of-town customers. Trash collection fees would also be raised from $36 to $36.90 for residential pickup and from $39 to $39.90 for commercial pickup.
