As he leaves BYU–Hawaii, Professor Cody Baldwin says he knows the Lord will always guide this university

Photo by Cody Baldwin Cody Baldwin, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Business & Government, is leaving after working five years at BYU–Hawaii to be the director for the master’s in business analytics program at the University of Wisconsin. His students shared how wonderful of a professor he was and what they have learned from him. Baldwin said, “I am sad to leave this special place, but I am also excited for my new opportunity.” During his time at BYUH, he said he has been impressed with students. “I was learning from them, just like they were learning from me. I know the Lord has great things in store for each of them. They will play an important role in spreading the gospel to every corner of the earth.”

Share: Embry-Riddle researchers are taking a novel approach to predicting outbreaks of the Covid-19 virus: developing models of traffic volume compared to viral activity in different regions of the country.  “It would appear that increases in highway traffic might be a leading indicator of where and when outbreaks of Covid-19 are likely to occur,” said Scott Parr, assistant professor of Civil Engineering and a principal investigator on the project, along with Dahai Liu, professor in the School of Graduate Studies, and Sirish Namilae, associate professor of Aerospace Engineering. “This research will investigate and model the relationship between roadway traffic and viral outbreaks … and assist in the planning of recovery efforts.”

DOE awarding more than $50M to 15 projects to advance critical material innovations The US Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding more than $50 million in funding for 15 projects focused on field validation and demonstration as well as next-generation extraction, separation, and processing technologies for critical materials. Critical materials are used in many products important to the US economy and energy technologies, such as rare-earth elements used to manufacture high-strength magnets for offshore wind-turbine generators and lithium and cobalt in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Projects selected under this funding opportunity announcement will reduce both the costs of critical materials and the environmental impacts of production. The projects are divided into two main topic areas:
