STEUBENVILLE An agreement was signed Thursday designed to help some West Virginia Northern Community College students seamlessly complete their bachelor’s degree at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
WVNCC students majoring in criminal justice, social work and early education will be eligible.

An agreement was signed Thursday designed to help some West Virginia Northern Community College students seamlessly complete their bachelor’s degrees at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
WVNCC students majoring in criminal justice, social work and early education will be eligible.
“When we were beginning to talk about this, I was just excited that we can serve one another,” the Rev. Dave Pivonka, TOR, president of Franciscan University of Steubenville, told WVNCC officials and all those gathered.
“I think, ultimately, that this will benefit Franciscan University but it also benefits West Virginia Northern. Ultimately, it’s about the young people, and it’s about the students and serving them and forming them to make sure that they’re able to do what is in their heart to do, but also what we believe what God would invite them to do,” Pivonka said.
The following high schools and colleges have announced their 2021 graduation ceremony schedule:
• West Liberty University: Graduate students, 5 p.m. Friday; undergraduate students, Saturday (College of Education and Human Performance and the College of Liberal Arts, 10 a.m.; College of Sciences, noon; College of Arts and Communication, the Gary E. West College of Business and the School of Professional Studies, 3 p.m. All ceremonies will be held at the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex.
• Bethany College: 10 a.m., Saturday, Bison Stadium.
• West Virginia Northern Community College: 7 p.m. May 14, Wheeling Island Stadium.
• Franciscan University of Steubenville: Baccalaureate Mass, 6 p.m. May 14; Science departments commencement, 9 a.m., May 15; arts departments commencement, 1 p.m. May 15. Commencement ceremonies will be held in the Finnegan Fieldhouse.

James Blazier will be Wheeling s next fire chief.
WHEELING A lifelong resident of the city and a veteran member of the department was named as the next fire chief for the city of Wheeling.
Upon the forthcoming retirement of current Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms this summer, the new fire chief will be James Blazier, Wheeling City Manager Robert Herron announced during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
“It’s my pleasure to announce that I’ve appointed Jim Blazier as the new fire chief for the city of Wheeling,” Herron said, noting that candidates were informed of the selection Tuesday morning. “Jim is currently the assistant chief in charge of training, has 35 years of experience in the department and will begin his duties on July 1 when chief Helms retires.”

James Blazier Selected as Next City of Wheeling Fire Chief
WHEELING, W.VA. – City Manager Robert Herron has announced that James Blazier, a 32-year veteran of the Wheeling Fire Department, has been selected as the next fire chief upon the retirement of current chief, Larry Helms, effective July 1.
“James’ education and professional experience is a great fit for the Chief’s role. I believe he will continue the tradition of excellence in fire, rescue and EMS that the residents of Wheeling have grown accustomed while advancing the department,” said Herron.
A life-long resident of Wheeling, Blazier is looking forward to his new role.
